Lithology Comments

Jan 20, 2014 (B Nelson) - Carter (1981c) described the occurrence: The occurrence is underlain by aphanitic intermediate volcanics, just north of a contact with aphanitic and pillowed mafic volcanics. The drill site is located on a north northwesterly trending lineament. In 1977, HBOG Mining Limited diamond drilled 221 foot (67.4 m) hole at Lamont Lake and a 347 foot (105.8 m) hole at Hollinger Lake, both in the southwestern part of the (P.2417) map area, in order to test electromagnetic conductors in similar metasediments. The HBOG Mining Limited drill logs describe what may be termed metasediments and underlying dacitic metavolcanics. The metasediments consist of two graphite (graphite schist?) horizons which flank a white to light grey chert unit. The graphitic units represent the conductive zones, carrying up to 8% pyrite as 1 to 5 cm veins and round blebs in a black, fine grained, massive groundmass. The chert is also massive with minor pseudo bedding at 80? to the drill core axis. It contains about 5% pyrite as veins, stringers and disseminations and very minor graphite seams. The underlying dacite is light grey, fine grained and massive containing no sulphide or graphite mineralization.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - Mineralization is restricted to veins/stringers, disseminations and blebs of pyrite and widespread graphite. Base metal mineralization was not noted but is suggested on the basis of low but significant assays in Cu, Zn and Pb. (Resident Geologist's Files, Schreiber Hemlo District, Thunder Bay) Assayed HBOG Mining Limited diamond drill sections returned the following results by semi-quantitative analysis: 0.01-0.1% Cu, 0.01-0.1% Pb, 0.01% Zn over 5.3 m from 'upper mineralized 'graphite'. The same results were obtained over 4.45 m from white chert, and 6.4 m from 'lower mineralized 'graphite'.
