Exploration History

1934-1935: Unspecified work; Siville-Ferrier Syndicate. 1936: Stripping and pitting; Siville-Ferrier Syndicate. Three parallel veins were exposed and traced for approximately 122 m. 1938: Unspecified surface work; Siville-Ferrier Syndicate. The shear zone hosting the veins was traced for 915 m. The veins are reported to have returned favourable assays. 1940-1941: Unspecified surface work and diamond drilling (totalling approximately 305 m); Siville-Ferrier Syndicate. 1954-1981: The occurrence was staked several times by various parties but no work was recorded. 1982: Geophysical surveys (EM, MAG); Micham Exploration Inc. 1983: Airborne geophysical surveys (EM, MAG), geological mapping, prospecting, trenching and sampling; David R. Bell Geological Sources Inc. 1984: Detailed geological mapping, prospecting and surface work; David R. Bell geological Sources Inc. (?). 1996: J. Ferguson and A. Ferguson carried out prospecting. 1998-2000: Exploration in the area of the Empress and Mocon Valley properties was conducted by Cameco and R. Wahl and G. Daniels. Power stripping, prospecting, sampling and geology were conducted. 1999: Cameco located and sampled the showing renaming it the Zlatco after one of their geologists. 2006: Alto Ventures acquired the property and conducted geological mapping and sampling.

Geology Comments

Jul 14, 2016 (D McKay) - According to Map 2107 (Walker 1967) and Dadson (1983, assessment files) the rocks underlying the West Group are predominantly mafic volcanics, chiefly dark green flows, tuffs and schistose to gneissic amphibolites proximal to a granite batholith that lies to the south. Foliations generally strike east-west, paralleling the granite contact, and dip steeply to the south. There are four major veins of interest in the West Group, which generally strike east-west. The main vein of interest is Vein No. 2 which is described as (unknown author): ...a schist and quartz vein heavily mineralized with chalcopyrite and iron sulphide. It has been traced for a length of 300 feet (91.4 m), dips 80 south and is approximately 12 feet (3.66 m) in width. The other veins are described as: Vein No. 1 (is) a quartz vein ... some 40 feet (12.2 m) north of vein No. 2. This vein has been exposed, showing a width of 9 feet (2.74 m), is well mineralized and dips 55 degrees south. Vein No. 3 (is) a sulphide vein 4 feet (1.22 m) in width and is located about 40 feet (12.2 m) south of No. 2. Vein No. 4 (is) a schist and quartz vein up on which very little work has been attempted to date (1936, Resident Geologist's Files, Schreiber-Hemlo District, Thunder Bay). An article published in the Northern Miner (May 10, 1984) regarding the occurrence and the surrounding area stated: Surface work in 1983 identified numerous carbonate alteration zones with associated anomalous gold values, along a 3 mile (418 km) strike length. Sampling by Cameco in 1999 described the showing as schistose and weakly silicified mafic rock containing only 1% pyrite and trace chalcopyrite assayed 2.3 g/t Au.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - The mineralization is composed of chalcopyrite, iron sulphide, pyrite and tourmaline. Fine free gold has been found in Vein No. 2. An unpublished Siville-Ferrier Report by an unknown author states (Resident Geologist's Files, Schreiber-Hemlo District, Thunder Bay): Grab sampling from three pits on Vein No. 2 returned the following average grades (@ $35.03 per oz. Au). West Pit - (9 samples) 0.268 oz. Au/ton Centre Pit - (3 samples) 0.607 oz. Au/ton East Pit - (3 samples) 0.292 oz. Au/ton Centre Pit - (3 samples) 0.607 oz. Au/ton East Pit - (3 samples) 0.292 oz. Au/ton Grab samples collected from 4 pits along the veins by the Siville-Ferrier Syndicate in the 1930's are reported to have averaged 0.3455 opt Au.

May 30, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Zlatco occurrence has been described as consisting of four mineralized zones occurring along the Empress structure. Two of these veins (Nos. 1 and 2) were described as having occurred within zones of carbonate and quartz shearing 2.7 to 7.6 m wide, and were traced over a distance of more than 488 m. 20 samples collected by the Siville-Ferrier Syndicate in 1936 from four pits along the veins were reported to have averaged 11.8 g/t Au (Schnieders et al. 1996). Old trenches believed to be the ones associated with the historic Siville-Ferrier West occurrence were sampled at this location by Micham Exploration during 1984 and Cameco in 1999. The best assays included 0.084 ounce Au per ton from a grab sample of sheared mafic metavolcanic rocks, and 6.7 g/t Au from mafic metavolcanic rock containing 50% quartz stringers and 2 to 4% disseminated to stringer pyrite with trace chalcopyrite (Puumala et al., 2016).

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - Economic mineralization of gold and/or silver was found to occur in quartz-filled shear zones within the mafic volcanics and was accompanied by pervasive and intense carbonate alteration.
