Exploration History

Pre-1921: The Blanchford vein was discovered. Some trenches and pits were dug. 1921-82: The occurrence was staked sporadically by various individuals. However, little work was recorded. 1965: Hannam Explorations conducted a vertical magnetic intensity survey. 1982: The occurrence was staked by E. Korba. 1983: Interest in the property was transferred to United Energy Corporation (50%) and Livingston Energy Corporation (50%). 1987: Noranda Exploration Co. conducted mapping and soil sampling. 1994: G. Daniels conducted prospecting and sampling. 1995: The occurrence was staked by R. Wahl, D. Kakeeway, and E. Beaven.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - A narrow quartz vein up to 30 cm wide strikes 120 degrees and dips 45 degrees towards the south. It occurs on the north side of a pink hornblende biotite granite (syenite) outcrop containing a long trench, 30 m or more in length. (Resident Geologist's Files, Schreiber Hemlo District, Thunder Bay) *Parres (1965, p.2) described the occurrence as part of his report for Hannam Exploration Limited: During this survey, old trenches and pits were seen which appeared to have been blasted sometime in the past. A narrow quartz vein about 300 feet in length and averaging about 10 inches wide containing molybdenite has been exposed along the south boundary of claim no. TB 119521. Hopkins (1922) wrote that the Blanchford vein was about 'three quarters of a mile to the northeast of the McKenzie (vein).

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The host to the vein is a pink hornblende-biotite granite.

Jul 03, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - The showing is found within the granitic rocks of the Terrace Bay batholith. The granite is coarse grained and massive, occasionally having a porphyritic appearance with quartz phenocrysts. Two small diabase dykes were also observed within the granite (AFRI 42D14SE0058).

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - Sampling by Resident Geologist personnel yielded the following results: AAS-83-01: 0.01 oz/ton Au, 0.10 oz/ton Ag, 540 ppm Cu and 6900 ppm Mo. 83-BBV-1: 0.01 oz/ton Au, 0.19 oz/ton Ag, 1.03 % Mo.

Jul 03, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - Three small trenches were located containing mineralized quartz veins and stockworks within the granite. The veins contain 2-3% pyrite with molybdenite and chalcopyrite, pyrite and pyrrhotite. Chip samples were taken across the mineralized sections with the highest assay result returning 0.34 gpt Au over 1 m (AFRI 42D14SE0058). The quartz vein is about 0.3 m wid, 91 m long, strikes 100 degrees and has a dip of 60 degrees S. A sample collected by M.W. Carter returned an assay of 0.25% Cu (Carter, 1988).
