Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - *Ogden (1970) describes the geology of the main showing: The main showing is located in the northeast corner of claim TB 111621. The molybdenite and chalcopyrite bearing quartz veins of ? inches to 4 inches (1 to 10 cm) in width have been found in rock trenches with 53 feet (16.8 m) of an overlying sulphide zone, on a knob like hill, of siliceous syenite, about 50 feet (16.8 m) high. The veins are in various directions and occasionally are close enough together to form a stockwork of quartz or even to make a granite breccia. The hornblende syenite host rock is silicified near the contact so as to become a granite. Magnetite has been found closely associated with the molybdenite and chalcopyrite, particularly near the gossan zone. I believe it is associated with the overlying sulphide zone in the lavas and hence can be used to trace that zone across country. It is however a narrow feature and readings would have to be taken at 50 foot (16.8 m) intervals to detect it. Some magnetite is occasionally found with the mineralization away from the lavas, but the total content is unlikely to be sufficient to be detectable by magnetometer.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The hornblende syenite host rock is silicified near the contact so as to become a granite.

Jul 03, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - The occurrence is a quartz-feldspar porphyry which is a marginal phase of the Terrace Bay Batholith. The porphyry is cut by aplite dykes, and by ramifying quartz veins varying from 1.3 to 10.1 cm wide in a NE-trending mineralized area about 15 m wide by about 45 m long (Carter, 1988).

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - Carter (1981c) reports: Assay results from an unknown kind of sampling by Nor Acme Gold Mines Limited in 1965 ... gave 3.25 percent molybdenum and 0.01 percent copper. The best assay from diamond drill core in 1969 by Univex Exploration and Development Corporation Limited, was 0.2 percent molybdenum and 0.2 percent copper over 2 feet (0.61 m) in monzonite. *Ogden (1970) reports that: Four samples were selected for assay to see how the ratio of different metals varied with the type of occurrence. It is obvious that copper cannot be expected to exceed 0.2% and no precious metal content can be anticipated. Samples taken by Resident Geologist personnel returned: Sample 1: 0.16% Cu, 0.38% Mo from a short quartz vein in syenite with mo and cp. Sample 2: 0.08% Cu, 0.15% Mo from dark granite almost at gossan contact with mag, mo, and cp. Sample 3: 0.05% Cu, 0.03% Mo from pink feldspar phenocrysts in a quartz groundmass with mo and cp. Sample 4: 0.01% Cu, 3.25% Mo from two pieces of 3 inch wide quartz veins, with a veneer of mo along one or both sides of the vein, from two locations.

Jul 03, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - Mineralization in the quartz veins and the porphyry consists of pyrite, chalcopyrite, and molybdenite, as disseminated flakes, blebs, and grains, with rosettes of molybdenite (Carter, 1988).
