Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - Hopkins (1922 p.23) first described the McKenzie occurrence: 'Considerable chalcopyrite occurs in narrow quartz veins with molybdenite and other minerals on the McKenzie claim (R.660) southeast of Schreiber ... The occurrence is situated in red hornblende granite and syenite.' A laminated quartz vein hosted by a potassium rich granite of the Terrace Bay Batholith, and is exposed by a 1.8 m by 1.8 m shaft. The vein observed was up to 25 cm wide and strikes 80 degrees with a near vertical dip. The vein was followed for 20 m along strike with several trenches and small pits observed. (Resident Geologist's Files, Schreiber Hemlo District, Thunder Bay).
