Location Method: Conversion from MDI

Access Description: The Acheron Resources Ltd. property is located approximately 9 km northeast of the town of Terrace Bay, in northeastern Strey Township. The property is located north of Blackbird Creek and includes Bews Lake (claim map G 633). Access is attained via Highway 17 to a point 7 km northeast of Terrace Bay were the west branch of the Blackbird Creek crosses, and then north by foot for 1.5 km.

Exploration History

Past: There is no recorded activity, but exploration may have taken place due to the proximity of the Empress gold mine, and the Mocan valley area (2.5 km east of the claim block), where exploration has taken place sporadically since 1895. 1983: Twenty unpatented claims (TB 660121,660125, TB 660127 660141) were staked by R. Rupert. The claim group was acquired in trust by Kenneth A. Gracey, and optioned 50% to Acheron Resources Limited. An airborne geophysical survey was conducted by Aerodat Ltd. (EM, VLF EM, magnetometer) and a report submitted by R.L.S. Hogg. Geological mapping and rock (chip) sampling of selected outcrops was conducted by G. Lohman. Geochemical soil sampling ('B' horizon) was carried out by B. Caldwell. 1996: B. Fowler contracted prospecting and sampling. 2009: R. Renner conducted prospecting and sampling.

Subprovince: Wawa

Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi

Belt: Schreiber-Hemlo

Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - *Lohman (1984) describes the geology of the claim group and surrounding area: In the Terrace Bay region the Archean assemblage is split into two bands having a size of 50 km x 10 km trending west northwesterly from the area of Santoy Lake. The metasediments and metavolcanics are folded about an east plunging synclinal axis and dip steeply (85 degrees) to both the south and north. The outline of the belt is quite irregular having been distorted by the intrusion of the Terrace Bay Batholith and other granitic equivalents to the north... Geological mapping of the claim block encountered rock types consistent with those identified by the Ontario Geological Survey on Preliminary Map 2418 (Carter, 1981). The volcanic sequence is diverse, predominated by mafic volcanics and minor exposures of intermediate to felsic tuffs and flows. Structurally, the claim area is crosscut by numerous prominent lineaments which trend north northeast and west northwest. Field examination of these features notes sharp bounded valleys infilled with swamps typical of a weathered out fault or shear zone. Actual displacement of rock units was noted due to the massive natures of the outcrops or lack of exposure in critical areas. Foliation of the rocks is generally in an east southeast direction as with the bedding of the units... Regional metamorphism in the area is of green schist facies (Marmont, 1983), however, in the proximity of the Terrace Bay Batholith results in intensifying the metamorphic facies to low grade amphibolite.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The mafic volcanics (Unit 1) consist of aphanitic to coarse grained amphibolites with lesser exposures of amphibolitised and, or chloritised tuffs, lapilli surfaces are a medium to dark green colour and weather greyish. The magnetic relief of these units is quite variable. Unit 2, the intermediate to felsic volcanics, is of local extent and consists of massive to medium grained tuffs and porphyritic flows. The units characteristically weather greyish to brownish with fresh exposures being lighter variations of the previous. Minor chert breccia was also noted... Medium to coarse grained diabase (Unit 3) is present throughout the claim area in distinct extensive dykes trending both to the northeast and northwest. The exposures weather grey to brown with fresh exposures being greenish grey. The outcrops are quite blocky in character and have a variable magnetic susceptibility.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - *Lohman (1984) reports: Prospecting on the claim block located numerous occurrences of quartz veining within the host rocks, however, these features were generally too small and barren of mineralization to warrant further investigation. At location TB 32, coarse blocks (20 30 cm size) were found containing moderate to high accumulations of chalcopyrite and sphalerite with minor malachite. This site was sampled returning slightly elevated values of copper and zinc, however, the gold and silver values were negligible. Locations TB 2 and TB 5 are also of interest with intermediate to felsic tuffs returning evidence of weak silver and zinc mineralization. Acheron Resources Limited conducted both geochemical soil and lithogeochemical sampling in 1983. *Lohman (1984) states: Soil geochemistry outlined numerous sporadic highs (up to 2070 ppb Au), which due to poor sample recovery are surrounded by a void of information. Rock chip sampling also detected two separate targets of cherty sediments which contain higher than normal values of Ag, Cu, Pb and Zn.

May 30, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - Most of the soil samples collected during the 1983 program assayed very low Au values, with the exception of sample TB L12W 1200N, which assayed 2070 ppb Au (AFRI 42D14SE0026). No significant assays were returned during the 1996 and 2009 prospecting programs.

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - Alteration in the mafic volcanic unit includes amphibolitisation and occasionally chloritisation with local occurrences of carbonatisation and silicification.
