Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - Carter (1981c) noted that gold and copper mineralization occurs in a narrow, northeast-trending shear zone in a hornblende syenitic to dioritic phase of the granitic Terrace Bay Batholith near its southwest margin. McLeod (1984) visited the site for United Continental Energy Corporation and observed a quartz vein 20 cm to 30 cm wide, in a narrow shear zone in granite. In addition a 2.5 to 5 cm sulphide stringer was observed hosted by granite. The quartz vein strikes N15 degrees E and was traced for approximately 180 m.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - An assay of 0.03 oz/ton Au was returned from a grab sample taken by Carter (1981c). Twelve grab samples collected by McLeod (1984) assayed up to 0.05 oz/ton Au and 0.92 oz/ton Ag.

Jul 16, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Worthington Bay No. 1 showing occurs on the NW shore of Worthington Bay and was located by OGS staff around 1980 and consists of a 1.8 m wide by 12 m long shear zone trending N40E in pink hornblende syenitic rock, mineralized with massive chalcopyrite and pyrite. A grab sample of the mineralized material collected during the OGS survey yielded 0.03 opt Au and 1.90% Cu (Carter, 1988).
