Exploration History

1980: showing was discovered by OGS staff M. Carter’s mapping crew. Report said it didn’t appear that any exploration activity had happened in the area. 1982: Claim TB 656156 was staked by B. Ransbury. 1983: 50% interest was transferred to United Continental Energy Corporation and 50% interest was transferred to Livingston Energy Corporation as part of 161 claim group. A combined airborne geophysical (EM, VLF EM, Magnetometer) survey was conducted by Aerodat Limited. Quartz veins in the area were sampled by H.D. McLeod.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The occurrence, classed as a 'calc-alkalic porphyry' deposit type, is described by Carter (1981c): During the current (1980) survey, a mineralized portion of a thirty foot (9.14 metre) wide diabase dyke trending east northeast was located at Worthington Bay, in Lake Superior in the southwestern corner. The country rocks are syenitic to dioritic phases of the granitic Terrace Bay Batholith. There is no record or evidence of previous exploration and the deposit thus constitutes a new occurrence. McLeod (1984) sampled a quartz vein in this locality which was traced for 23 m and varied from 7.5 cm to 30 cm in width. The quartz vein fills a shear zone in the granite.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - Grab samples of quartz vein collected by McLeod (1984) assayed up to 0.005 oz/ton Au and 0.53 oz/ton Ag.

Jul 16, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - A grab sample collected by M. Carter’s mapping crew assayed 2.76 opt Ag and 1.09% Cu (Carter, 1981). The showing consists of an irregular mineralized zone of massive pyrite, chalcopyrite and secondary malachite in a 9 m wide diabase dyke striking N80E intruding pink coarse-grained hornblende syenite. A grab sample of this mineralized material was assayed by the Geoscience Laboratories, Ontario Geological Survey and yielded <.01 ounce gold per ton, 2.76 ounce silver per ton, 1.09% copper, 36 ppm nickel and 14 ppm cobalt (Carter, 1988).
