Geological Age: Paleoproterozoic

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - Hopkins (1922) noted: According to T.L. Tanton, small amounts of native copper occur in veinlets and amygdules in the Keweenawan lavas on the northwest shore of Copper Island. However, Giguere (1975, p.26) noted that: ...no copper was located here (Copper Island) during the present (1975) survey. According to Giguere (1975, p. 26) local deposits occur as copper-chalcocite carbonate veins or as amygdules of native copper associated with prehnite, calcite and chlorite vesicle fillings.
