Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - The area is underlain by mafic to felsic metavolcanic rocks, predominantly pillowed flows and some pyroclastic rocks. Oxide- to sulphide-facies iron formation is present in the area and northwest trending faults transect the area. Mafic intrusive rocks namely gabbro intrude the area. Late felsic intrusives include quartz porphyry and syenite.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - An oxide-facies iron formation up to 6 m wide was observed striking 100 to 120 degrees. The iron formation is hosted by pillowed metavolcanic flows and possible felsic tuff which have been intruded by mafic dikes. A major fault trends 330 degrees and truncates the southeast extension of the iron formation. The iron formation consists of laminated chert, ash and magnetite which has been replaced by pyrite and pyrrhotite. Alteration includes silicification and carbonatization. The iron formation appears to mark the contact between the mafic and intermediate to felsic metavolcanic rocks.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - The iron formation consists of laminated chert, ash and magnetite which has been replaced by pyrite and pyrrhotite. Grab samples collected from the occurrence in 1987 by OGS staff returned assay values which varied up to 0.01 ounce Au/ton, nil Ag, 1130 ppm Zn and 470 ppm Cu. Although no economic gold values were returned, similar iron formations at the Twomey and Schreiber-Pyramid occurrences have returned economic values and suggest that other iron formations in the area such as the Mudge occurrence should be sampled for gold and base metals.

Jun 22, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - Samples collected by R. Renner in 2008 retuned assays of up to 2.583 g/t Au (AFRI 20000004086).

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - Alteration includes silicification and carbonatization.
