Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - Late Precambrian gabbro of the Port Coldwell alkalic complex hosts three deposits of disseminated pyrite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. One deposit, striking 20 degrees and dipping vertically is exposed for a strike length of 122 m and a width of 24 m. A second occurrence, 183 m north-northeast from the first deposit is exposed over a length of 305 m and across widths up to 9 m. The second deposit strikes 290 degrees and dips vertically. The third occurrence, situated 183 m north-northeast of the second deposit, strikes north-south and dips gently east. It is exposed for a strike length of 61 m and across widths of up to 18 m.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - Sulphide mineralization consists of pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and pyrite hosted within a massive gabbro, although layered gabbro is present. The mineralized zones contain up to 0.88% Cu, but have a very low Pt and Pd content. The sulphide mineralization is of magmatic origin. A channel sample, taken along strike of the second deposit, averaged 0.63% copper over 13.7 m. Diamond drill holes, drilled to intersect the three deposits, indicated low copper values (Resident Geologist's Files, Schreiber-Hemlo District, Thunder Bay) Shklanka (1969) states: One intersection in diamond drill hole No. 3 returned low values in copper over a core length of 48 feet. The best material in this section, from footage 100.0 to 115.0, assayed 0.75 percent copper. Grab samples collected by Resident Geologist staff (OGS) in 1983 and 1986 returned assay results which varied from 47 ppm to 5.8% Cu, <5 to 278 ppm Ni, <1 to 13 ppb Pt and <1 to 5 ppb Pd.
