Location Method: Field Visit

Access Description: The Alvey occurrence is located approximately 1.2 km north of Highway 17, north of the town of Ripple in Walsh Township (formerly Township 80), just west of a small lake (claim map G-636). Two separate occurrences are suggested; an iron formation with abundant pyrite and a carbonate vein with sphalerite and galena. The showing area is accessed via a overgrown logging road, departing from Highway 17 just northeast of Ripple. Helicopters can land on the small lake just east of the showing.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - The general geology consists of metasedimentary rocks, predominately turbidites which display isoclinal folding and fracturing. The area is in close proximity to a contact with metavolcanic rocks and iron formation. Walker (1967, p.36) described the Alvey occurrence: About 1 miles north of Ripple, a zone of sheared greywacke and iron formation contains about 30 percent massive and disseminated pyrite. The massive pyrite is found in lenticular nodules up to several feet thick. The zone is up to 40 feet wide, dips steeply, and strikes N65 degrees E. Page (1953, assessment files) also described local geology: Locally, rhyolitic types predominate in the northern portion of the claim group while agglomerate and andesite are prevalent in the southern portion. Some sedimentary member are evident in the form of schistose slates on claim TB 40861 while an extensive body of quartzite lies along the southern boundary of claim TB 44848. Fracturing and faulting in east-west and north-south directions are common, the former predominating and apparently being the guiding influence in localizing mineral deposition.

Mineralization Comments

Jul 23, 2018 (D McKay) - Page (1953, assessment files) described the mineral deposits on the Wincore claim group: On claim TB 40868 a persistent fracture zone striking N20 degrees W enters the group from the east. This zone, which is developed is brittle rhyolites, is exposed in an old pit 75 feet inside the claim boundary. A central stringer of carbonatized vein matter carried section up to four inches in width of massive, brown sphalerite. A grab sample of the high grade material is reported to have returned 0.48 oz. silver and 28% zinc. A further 12 inches of altered, brecciated rhyolite contains sparse sphalerite mineralization. Immediate continuity to the west cannot be traced because of low, swampy ground. It is probable that the vein continues to the west in similar character. A large pyrite zone occurs on claims TB 40861 and TB 40865. It is first exposed approximately 100 feet west of the shore of a small lake where old trench and strippings expose a rusty schistose some fifty feet wide. This zone carries narrow bands and stringers of massive pyrite. 350 feet along the strike (S50 degrees W) a small creek crosses the sulfide-bearing material across 140 feet. Three x-ray diamond drill holes were put down into the zone at this point. Some twenty feet of core near the north contact is reported to have shown a good grade of pyrite. Grab samples collected from the occurrence in 1981 by Canadian Nickel Company Ltd. returned assay results which varied up to 300 ppm Cu, 755 ppm Zn and 25 ppb Au (SH Resident Geologist Mineral Deposit Files). Grab samples collected in 1983 by Resident Geologist staff returned assay results which varied up to <0.01 ounce per ton Au, 1.34 ounce per ton Ag, 146 ppm Cu and 1.55% Pb.
