Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - The area is underlain by mafic metavolcanic rocks consisting of amphibolite-epidote schist, which marks the north contact with the vein and a sheared chlorite schist marking the south contact with the vein. The vein varies in width from 15 cm to 1.8 m wide, strikes 80 to 108 degrees and dips 77 degrees S to vertical. It can be traced along strike for about 15.2 m where it disappears under overburden cover.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - The quartz vein consists of massive-to sugary-white bull quartz, and occurs as rodded and boudinaged lenses. The quartz is highly fractured with red hematite occurring on some of the fracture planes. The vein is mineralized with argentiferous galena, sphalerite and minor chalcopyrite. The metavolcanic rocks contain pyrite near the contact with the quartz vein. Minor barite and fluorite is present in the area. The vein is hosted by a chlorite-biotite schist, with mafic metavolcanic rocks as well as mafic intrusive dikes present in the area. The Halonen Silver vein or the No Name occurrences may represent the western extension of the Dead Horse North occurrence. (Resident Geologist's Files, Schreiber-Hemlo District, Thunder Bay). Grab samples collected from the occurrence in 1983 and 1987 by OGS Resident geologist staff returned assay results which varied from trace to 0.04 opt Au, <0.10 to 26.3 opt Ag, 94 ppm to 12.4% Pb, 11 ppm to 5.9% Zn and 43 to 500 ppm Cu.
