Location Method: Field Visit

Access Description: The occurrence is located approximately 0.8 km northwest of Little Santoy Lake in Syine Township (formerly Township 82). Approximately 15 km east of Terrace Bay (claim map G-634). Access may be gained from Highway 17. A gravel road extends north from Highway 17 approximately 5 km west of the Steel River. This is the Santoy Lake road which passes close to the showing.



Exploration History

1980-1982: The occurrence was staked twice but no work was recorded. 1983: Airborne geophysical survey (MAG, EM, VLF); R.A. Schiralli. Property examination and lithogeochemical sampling; OGS Resident Geologist staff. 1985: Ground geophysical (MAG, EM), geochemical and geological surveys; R.A. Schiralli. 1991-1994: Prospecting and sampling; R. Renner, B. Fowler and M. Shuman. 2004: Phoenix Matachewan Mines Inc. carried out prospecting and sampling. 2009: R. Renner conducted prospecting, mapping, and sampling.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - Schnieders et al. (1996) state: The rocks in the immediate vicinity consist of intermediate to felsic metavolcanic rocks and iron formation. Outcrop is scarce but a number of rusty-weathering siliceous iron formation exposures were observed and sampled. The mineralized zone is of undetermined thickness and strikes about N70 degrees E.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - Mineralization consists of pyrite, and chalcopyrite in magnetite rich iron formation. Grab samples collected from the occurrence in 1983 by OGS Resident Geologist staff returned assay values which varied from <0.01 to <0.01 opt Au, <0.10 to 1.42 opt Ag, 39 to 217 ppm Cu and 76 to 440 ppm Ni.
