Access Description: Cumberland Resources had an interest in two claim groups. Both the Western claim group and the Eastern claim group are located immediately north of Highway 17, about 25 km east of the town of Terrace Bay. The Western claim group of 75 claims is in Tuuri Township and the Eastern group of 18 claims is in Walsh Township (claim maps G-635 and G-636). Access is via the Trans Canada Highway (Highway 17). A road several hundred meters west of the Prairie River leads to the north.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - The Eastern claim group is underlain mainly by sediments of slate and greywacke type with some chert interbands and is intruded by a granitic body approximately 2.5 km long by 200 m wide. The Western claim group is primarily underlain by metasediments with some intercalated mafic intermediate and felsic metavolcanics. The Eastern claim group is located just west of the Prairie River. Along the most northerly powerline the geology consists of silicified pillowed metavolcanic rocks. Within this sequence some zones contain abundant pyrite. In some places sulphides consisting mainly of pyrite have replaced the pillow rim selvages. The main zone located 450 to 500 m south of the powerline is geochemically anomalous and has been traced for approximately 600 m and is about 50 m wide. Anomalous values in gold, silver, arsenic and antimony are present. Bedrock outcrops observed in this zone also consist of silicified and cherty metavolcanic rocks containing pyrite mineralization. Other rock types found on the property are gabbroic and dioritic intrusives, northwest-southeast trending diabase dikes and cross-cutting fine-grained felsite dikes. In the north part of the property the pillow lava is north facing and grades into agglomerate. The south part of the property is predominantly underlain by metasedimentary rocks consisting of greywacke and slate argillite. Associated with the metasediments are pillowed metavolcanic rocks. One pillow determination in the southern portion of the property indicated tops to the south. Although the evidence is weak at the moment, the north-facing pillows to the north and the south-facing pillows to the south, may indicate a broad synformal structure in the area.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - Steinert (1984, assessment files) described the drilling as encountering massive, barren sulphides and silicified shale, at the sheared and altered contact between gabbro and intermediate to felsic volcanics. In addition interbedded chemical and clastic sediments were encountered. Drilling by Cumberland Resources Ltd. in 1984 in hole WH-84-6 encountered massive, barren sulphides (py,po) and silicified shale, with anomalous gold, silver and zinc values. The best section yielded 0.015 ounce per ton Au, 0.02 ounce per ton Ag and 0.06% Zn over 12.4 feet (Steinert 1984, assessment files). Hole WH-84-5 intersected 0.01 ounce per ton Au over 3.6 feet in minor barren sulphides. Grab samples collected from the occurrence in 1984 by OGS Resident Geologist staff returned assay results which varied from <0.01 to 0.01 opt Au, <0.01 to <0.01 opt Ag, 70 to 101 ppm Cu, <10 to 13 ppm Pb and 85 to 148 ppm Zn (SH Resident Geologist Mineral Deposit Files).

Alteration Comments
