Exploration History

1953: MacLeod-Cockshutt Gold Mines Ltd. carried out an airborne magnetometer survey. 1954: MacLeod-Cockshutt Gold Mines carried out magnetometer and EM surveys. 1963: Inco drilled 7 DDH totalling about 915 m. Values from these holes are unknown. 2000: Freewest Resources discovered the Phantom Zone while conducting geological mapping and prospecting. 2007: Benton Resources carried out geological mapping, sampling, and a VTEM survey. 2008: Benton Resources drilled 2 DDH totalling 412 m.

Mineralization Comments

Mar 14, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - The Phantom Zone is located approximately 1.1 km SW of the Beggs-Currie Showing. The Phantom Zone is a komatiite-hosted nickel showing associated with a shear zone, returning historical grab samples up to 1.8% Ni and 0.2% Cu (AFRI 20000003919). The zone is 75 cm thick, with mineralization of 1-10% pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, and pyrite. The best result from the 2007 prospecting program was 1.27% Ni, 0.216% Cu, 0.385 ppm Pd and 0.227 ppm Pt (AFRI 20000002338).
