Geological Age: Archean

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - Bartley (1955) described the occurrence as follows: ...there is a zone about 100 feet wide containing stringers and veinlets of quartz and specularite. The specularite stringers are up to one-quarter inch in width. The veinlets are composed of either quartz or specularite or a mixture of both. The enclosing rock is a light, brownish grey quartzitic sediment which weathers to a light tan colour. It contains some dark, brown weathering carbonate and local disseminations or very small, rusty pyrite cubes. On weathering, the veinlets are more resistant to erosion, and project above the surrounding surfaces. Hinz and Landry (1994) as well as Bartley (1955) described quartz veins up to 300 feet wide in the Dickison Lake-Gravel River area.
