Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - Carter (1975, p.23) described the Dickison Lake pyrite occurrence as follows: These occurrences are associated with narrow shears in granite and migmatite. The Spine Creek deposit is in a shear on the north wall of the Gravel River-Kamuck River Fault.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - Carter (1975, p.23) described the mineralogy as follows: The pyrite is in cubes up to ? inch (1.3 cm) across in fault gouge and very fine-grained chloritized rock material in the shear. About ? mile (0.8 km) southeast of this occurrence, at either end of an unnamed lake, pyrite is on shear planes in mylonized granite reddened with hematite. The pyrite occurs as cubes ? inch (0.6 cm) across in the granite, and the pyrite content is about 2 percent. Several samples of a silicified, highly strained, mylonized granite were sampled from the Spine Lake area by OGS Resident Geologist staff. Numerous pyrite occurrences are present on Carter's map (Map 2293). Bartley (1954) also show up to 5 sulphide occurrences in this area. Low gold values have been reported 5 km to the southwest along the Kamuck River/Gravel River fault. Grab samples of highly deformed and altered granitic and metasedimentary rocks collected from the area in 1984 by OGS Resident Geologist staff returned assay results of up to <0.01 opt Au and <0.10 opt Ag. Many of these samples contained up to 5% pyrite.

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - Carter (1975) states: The pyrite is in cubes up to ? inch (1.3 cm) across in fault gouge and very fine-grained chloritized rock material in the shear. About ? mile (0.8 km) southeast of this occurrence, at either end of an unnamed lake, pyrite is on shear planes in mylonized granite reddened with hematite.
