Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - Pye (1964, p.24) described the Canabel occurrence as follows: The Canabel deposit is located 100 feet east of the south end of Heron Lake, in the northeast corner of the map-area, and occurs in metasediments, close to the contact with metavolcanics to the north. Other than a reference to the deposit in an unpublished report by L. Germain (1957) for Canabel Syndicate, little information is available. It is described as a discovery of argentiferous galena, but the dimensions and grade of the deposit are not recorded. The Canabel deposit was tested by trenching by Canabel Syndicate in 1957. This work, however, must have been unsuccessful in outlining anything of value, for the company's claims have been cancelled. Diamond drilling by Valmont Mining Exploration Limited, indicated that the mineralized zone (of the main showing) occurred in a 'fine to medium-grained mica garnet schist' and 'black tuff with considerable graphite'.

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - Schnieders et al. (1996): Mineralization consisted of very fine disseminated pyrite and pyrrhotite, with occasional stringers of pyrite parallel to bedding planes. A few small crystals of sphalerite and chalcopyrite were also noted, sometimes in association with quartz and carbonate. Diamond drilling in 1958 by Valmont Mining Exploration Limited yielded core that assayed up to 0.06 opt Ag, trace Au , trace Cu and 0.25% Zn over 1.98 m (hole 3). The highest zinc assay was 0.67% over 0.54 m (hole 5b).
