Lithology Comments

Jun 14, 2019 (Therese Pettigrew) - Assessment work by Falconbridge in 1984 describes the Shy Lake – Cable Lake Iron formation as a pyrite-pyrrhotite iron formation, which extends across the northern part of the 1983 Big Duck Lake grid. It is exposed in pits and trenches south of Shy Lake on line 10W and north of Cable Lake. There is also a pit on the southern shore of Sulphur Lake. The sulphides are massive or finely banded. One of the pits on line 10E has massive sulphides with chert fragments in it (Assessment file 42E03SE8252).

Mineralization Comments

Jun 14, 2019 (Therese Pettigrew) - Hopkins (1922) reported that “running northeasterly across Sulphur Lake is a banded deposit, some 2 miles in length, of sugary quartz and pyrite. Veins of pyrite up to 2 feet in width and carrying low values of gold were noticed. Narrow pyrrhotite veins are also present.” Samples taken by Falconbridge in 1984 from the same formation between Cable and Shy Lakes returned results of 17-45 ppb Au and 1.2-2.0 ppm Ag (Assessment report 42E03SE8252).
