Access Description: Follow the main Camp 81 Domtar Woodlands Road (branches off Highway 17 roughly 16 km east of Nipigon) for 48 km until you reach the Quoits Lake Road (MN RD 2). Proceed 9 km to the southwest, to Sport Creek. The showing is 400 m west of the creek.



Exploration History

1992: J.C. and J. Vos conducted prospecting and discovered the Vos amethyst occurrence. 1993: Additional prospecting and staking was conducted in the Klersy-Quoits Lake area.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The bedrock consists of pink biotite granite bordered by metasedimentary migmatite. Amethyst veins up to 12.5 cm in width and exhibiting a deep purple color were discovered in the Klersy-Quoits Lake area. The amethyst veins strike 118 degrees and dip 74 degrees SW. The veins display a cockscomb texture and are hosted by a medium to coarse grained granite. The veins are exposed over a strike length of 75 m.
