Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Schnieders) - Vegan No. 1 and No. 2 deposits: Vegan No. 1 pegmatitie dike has been traced in outcrops and in 19 diamond drill holes over a length of 700 feet. It ranges from 2 to 30 feet in thickness and averages about 15 feet. It strikes S 35-40 degrees and dips 35 degrees E. The dike consists of coarse-grained to vey coarse-grained elongated crystals of white potash feldspar and prismatic crystals of spodumene, 2-8 inches in length, in a groundmass of quartz, feldspar, and muscovite, At the south end of the dike , a little red garnet and black tourmaline are also present. The Vegan No. 2 dike averages 16 feet. and ranges up to 18.5 feet in width, and is essentially a tabular body that dips 35-45 degrees NE. The deposit is similar to the No.1 (Pye, 1965).

Lithology Comments

Jun 29, 2017 (Therese Pettigrew) - The biotite-quartz-feldspar schist is a dark-coloured, grey rock having a banded appearance due to compositional variations in the original sediments. While the major portion of sequence is granoblastic in texture, porphyroblastic rocks are also present containing porphyroblasts of one or more of garnet, staurolite and cordierite. These minerals are more resistant to erosian and hence stand up in marked relief on outcrop surfaces. The medium- to coarse-grained granitic rocks are pale grey or pale pink in colour generally massive in nature and consist primarily of feldspar, quartz and mica. The pegmatites are closely associated with the granite and are of two types. The potentially economic pegmatites consist of feldspar, quartz, muscovite and most importantly spodumene, while the second type are the more normal granitic pegmatites (AFRI 42E05SW8331).
