Exploration History

1947: Little Long Lac Gold Mines carried out geological mapping, magnetic surveys, and drilled 18 DDH totalling 2750.8 m. 1982: Two claims (TB632189 and TB632190) were staked by Mel Swereda on June 5, 1982. George Moore staked two adjacent claims (TB632182 and TB632183) to the east on May 20, 1982. The four claims were worked as one property by both men. 1983-84: Trenching was done over two mineralized shear zones which comprise the occurrence and extensive surface stripping was completed. Several shallow 18 m drill holes (AQ size) were also put down in the vicinity of the mineralized zones. 1990: M Swereda carried out trenching, sampling, and drilled 2 DDH totalling 84.1 m.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The property is located within mafic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks proximal to a contact with clastic metasedimentary units to the south. The claim block is part of a highly sheared zone which is cut by numerous east-trending diorite-gabbro intrusive 'lenses.' Two parallel graphitic shear zones, 120 m apart and striking north 120 degrees east and dipping 80 degrees southeast, are exposed on the claims. The zones range up to 50 cm in width and are discontinuous, with a prominent fissile nature. The enclosing volcanic rocks are highly strained in the immediate vicinity of the shears, containing numerous cross-cutting, irregular quartz-carbonate veins and stringers. Drag-folding is exhibited by some stringers. Shear zone #1, to the north, consists of a central graphite-rich band containing quilts, patches and colliform-like pyrite, and two narrow parallel cherty iron formation horizons. The No. 2 zone is highly mineralized and contains up to 25% sulphides, which are massive in places. Siderite-ankerite and graphite occur as margins along quartz-carbonate vein boundaries.

Mineralization Comments

Jul 25, 2019 (B Nelson) - Mineralization is massive in places within the graphitic shears, containing up to 25% sulphides. The No. 2 zone is highly mineralized and contains up to 25% sulphides, which are massive in places. It consists mainly of dull grey quartz and pyrite with lesser amounts of chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and minor (4%) disseminated sphalerite. Siderite-ankerite and graphite occur as selvages along quartz-carbonate vein boundaries. Pyrite was also noted in the surrounding volcanic rocks, existing as blebs, euhedral crystals and fine disseminations. Prominent limonite-staining is present where sulphides occur. Volcanic rocks in the vicinity of these altered zones are predominantly carbonate-rich. A total of 20 grab samples from both shear zones was collected during three property visits by the Beardmore-Geraldton Economic Geologist. All samples returned only trace amounts of gold (i.e. <0.01 oz/t Au) (Thunder Bay RGP Mineral Deposit file).

Jul 25, 2019 (Therese Pettigrew) - Sample 90-MM3 returned an assay of 1260 ppm Zn and 303 ppm Cu. Sample 90-MMS-7 returned an assay of 0.134 oz/t Au (4.17 g/t Au). Sample 90-MMS-8 returned an assay of 0.141 oz/t Au (4.4 g/t Au). Sample 90-MMS-13 returned 0.932 ppm Au. Sample 91-MMS-8 returned 0.008 oz/t Au (0.25 g/t Au), 3236 ppm Cu, and 2800 ppm Zn (Assessment report 42E10NW00100).

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - Siderite-ankerite and graphite occur as margins along quartz-carbonate vein boundaries. Prominent limonite staining is present where sulphides occur. Volcanic rocks in the vicinity of these altered zones are dominantly carbonate-rich.
