Point Location Description: At site of sample 99MLT-1.

Location Method: Field Visit with GPS

Access Description: Travel ~8 km east of Jellicoe, Ontario on Highway 11 to the Leopard Lake road. Proceed south on this road for approx. 2.4 km to an easterly bush road for approx. 1.3 km where the road crosses an outcrop of sheared greywacke that is intruded by two east-trending felsic dikes. A series of outcrops extend for ~100 m to the southwest where sample 99MLT-1 was collected.

Exploration History

There is no record of exploration work in the immediate vicinity of this gold occurrence. However, Mealey and Koivisto flew an AM and AEM survey over their Legault Tp and South of Legault claims in June of 1987 (AFO 2.10253). A distinct mag low with no conductivity is depicted on their map on strike to the southwest with this occurrence.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (Mark O'Brien) - The south portion of Legault Township is underlain by greywacke and discontinuous iron formation, which have been intruded by east-trending diorite sills and north to northeast-trending diabase dikes (Mackasey 1973). Two east-trending felsic dikes are depicted on O.G.S. preliminary map P1191 at the first north bend in the Patsy Lake road. A grab sample that assayed 0.03 ounce per ton gold was collected by OGS staff from an outcrop 700 m east of Patsy Lake, in south-central Legault Township. This sample was a weakly foliated and silicified greywacke with approximately 1% disseminated, fine-grained pyrite. It is worth noting that the sample site, which is currently open to staking, is in the vicinity of a low magnetic anomaly (OGS map 81323), adjacent to a flexure in a regional lineament (Mackasey 1973), and is without previous, recorded exploration work.

Site Visit Information

Date: Sep 11, 2000

Geologist: Mark O'Brien

Notes: The occurrence was visited by Mark O'Brien on September 28, 1999 during a regional reconnaissance of the road network between Highway 11 and the Parks Lake area. A grab sample that assayed 0.03 ounce per ton gold was collected from an outcrop 700 m east of Patsy Lake, in south-central Legault Township. This sample was a weakly foliated and silicified greywacke with approximately 1% disseminated, fine-grained pyrite.
