Province: Superior
Subprovince: Wabigoon
Belt: Beardmore-Geraldton
Geological Age: Archean
Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The map area is underlain by metavolcanics and igneous intrusive rocks of Precambrian age, but a large part is covered by Pleistocene sand and recent swamp deposits. The oldest rocks are Early Precambrian (Archean) metavolcanics ranging from mafic to felsic in composition. More than half the map area is underlain by intermediate to felsic metavolcanics. Most of these are pyroclastic rocks, such as tuff-breccia, crystal tuff and bedded tuff, but massive, amygdaloidal, flow-banded and spherulitic flows are also common. These felsic to intermediate rocks are in conformable contact with a mafic sequence of massive, amygdaloidal and pillow lavas and related breccia, which occurs in the southern and eastern parts of Rickaby Township. The metavolcanics are intruded by Early Precambrian sub-circular stocks of granodiorite, a sill-like body of gabbro, and numerous minor intrusions ranging from granitic to lamprophyric and pyroxenitic in composition. All of these rocks have been metamorphosed to the greenschist facies and are intruded by north-trending Late Precambrian Keweenawan diabase dykes which cut all of the older rocks. Elmhirst Township lies within the Wabigoon Belt of the Superior Structural Province. Faults do not form prominent topographical features, but several faults have been inferred at major lithologic contacts. Exploration activity to date has been concentrated on a large quartz vein in a massive porphyritic rhyolite. The country rock has been intensely schisted for several feet or more on both sides of the vein. the schist is highly chloritic and fairly well mineralized with fine crystalline pyrite. There are at least two ages of quartz, which vary in appearance from white to blue and sugary to vitreous. On surface, the quartz is rusty in streaks from sulphide weathering. The main vein on the Wilkinson Lake property strikes in a northwesterly direction and dips 78 degrees south.

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - In addition, bornite and molybdenite have been noted. Accessory minerals include chlorite, sericite, limonite and tourmaline. The main vein is approximately 39.6 m long and up to 5.5 m wide. Assays from this vein and others yielded values from trace to 0.59 oz/ton Au and up to 2.40 oz/ton Ag. Chip samples taken from the hanging wall, in sugary blue quartz, sparsely mineralized with py and minor cp in fine massive veinlets, indicate a zone averaging approximately 0.33 oz/ton Au and 2 oz/ton Ag across 4-5 feet. The mineralized schist, comprising the walls on either side of the vein, also carries low values in gold (0.02 to 0.09 oz/ton). In 1978, Metalore recorded assay results of 0.44 oz/ton Au over 4.3 m, 0.42 oz/ton Au over 2.7 m and 0.97 oz/ton Au over 1.8 m from drill holes 78-3, 78-5, and 78-10 respectively. Silver values up to 1.10 oz/ton.
Oct 15, 2019 (Robert Cundari) - Grab samples collected by staff of the Thunder Bay North Resident Geologist’s office from the main vein system (UTM 453880E 5518614N) along the Kinghorn Road at the Wilkinson Lake zone assayed 1.38 ounces Au per ton (quartz vein) and 0.20 ounce Au per ton (chlorite-sericite schist wall rock). There are 3 main gold zones within the Hercules shear system. The character of the vein systems observed at several of these occurrences, within and adjacent to the Hercules shear, is consistent with an Archean shear-hosted gold model. Shear zones host quartz vein stockwork, chlorite-sericite schist and feldspar porphyry dikes. Sulphide content averages 5%, consisting mainly of pyrite, but amounts up to 15% were noted. Chalcopyrite, galena and sphalerite were also present within the main vein system at the Wilkinson Lake zone. The metavolcanic host rock observed within the Hercules shear, generally consists of andesitic to felsic tuffs and pyroclastic breccias.
Oct 15, 2019 (Therese Pettigrew) - Several vein systems have been identified on the Property. The main one is the Golden Mile which has a NW-SE trend and has been identified in the drill core for over 2 km in strike length, occurring just west of Wilkinson Lake. Associated with this vein system are a number of mineralized zones, including the Bobby Ore, Fat Bastard, Lucky Strike East and West, and the Two Veins. A second vein system has been identified approximately a kilometre northeast of the Golden Mile vein system with a similar NW-SE trend. This vein system also consists of discrete mineralized zones or veins, including the Wilkinson Lake, Penelton, Marino, Derek Lee and the "7 of 9" Veins. These zones have drill indicated strike lengths of up to 500 m. This vein system is referred to as the "Wilkinson Lake-Yellow Brick Road" vein system. Both vein systems are steeply dipping to the southwest. Individual veins are hosted within and post-date the Elmhirst Lake Intrusion and the semi-continuous mafic units which trend sub-parallel to the quartz veins. Strong shear deformation is localized along the quartz vein contacts and within the mafic unit. The veins pinch and swell non-systematically horizontally and vertically. The Wilkinson Lake-Yellow Brick Road vein system has a combined strike length of 3 km. In the 2006 drilling program, two drillholes with significant results were observed in the Wilkinson Lake Gold Zone ("WLGZ"). These drillholes were HR06-02 grading 9.22 g Au/t over 13 m from 11.3 m to 30.3 m, and HR06-03 grading 19.64 g Au/t over 13.15 m from 26.4 m to 39.55 m. Other significant drill intersections include 38.47 g Au/t over a down-hole width of 1.6 m at Marino (HR07-16), 12.85 g Au/t over 1.1 m including 0.3 m grading 53.24 g Au/t at 7 of 9 (HR08-113) and 15.59 g Au/t over a true width of 9.7 m (including 51.65 g Au/t over 2.83 m) at Wilkinson Lake (HR07-03). Drillhole HR08-145 was successful in extending the high grade WLGZ down plunge, where it intersected 3.3 m grading 22.26 g Au/t, including 90 g Au/t over 0.8 m (Kociumas and Power-Fardy, 2010). Visible gold is seen on surface in the Marino vein and at depth in drill core from the 7 of 9 vein (Assessment report 20000006750).
