Access Description: The property is located 20 km north-northeast of the Beardmore townsite in the southwest corner of Pifher Township. The main showing can be reached by 2 wheel drive vehicle from Highway 11, 26 km east of Beardmore. The second road (River or 72 Road) travelling west from Highway 801 (11km north), north of the Namwaminikan River crossing, provides access to the property.

Exploration History

1934: Rene Maloney discovered gold in an andesite outcrop to the east of Peddle Lake. A shallow test pit was blasted on the showing, revealing a quartz lens up to 2 m wide and striking N50 degrees W. Two cross trenches were dug to the NW, but no further vein material was uncovered in this direction. Several deep pits were dug in a southerly direction about 15 m east of the original pit, following the rusty shear zone the vein occurred in. No important mineralization was uncovered. 1935: Discovery pit opened up further; 'spectacular gold ore' uncovered. About 40 tons of vein material was removed from a 6 m long ore pocket. A shipment of 364 lbs of cobbed material produced a 21.4 oz gold brick. 1936: Claims cancelled due to non-renewal of licence. 1937: Claims reinstated. One ton of ore reportedly yielded 72.6 oz of gold and 16 oz of silver. 1938: The claims were cancelled in April and immediately restaked. 1939-42: Some work recorded; claims cancelled then restaked. 1953: Claims brought to lease. 1975-76: Mag survey conducted. 1985: Claims lapsed and R.J. McGowan staked the ground covering the original pit.

Geology

Province: Superior

Geological Age: Archean

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The property lies in an area underlain by mafic to felsic metavolcanics which are intruded by diabase and granitic rock. Specifically, the prospect is underlain mainly by pillowed and tuffaceous mafic metavolcanics. Irregularly-shaped intrusions of feldspar porphyry or granite porphyry can be found. The metavolcanics are dark green, highly altered, have well developed pillow structures, strike generally N80E and have a near vertical dip. The mineralization consists of gold and sulphides in vitreous quartz veins. The veins are well fractured, with thin layers of dark chloritic or sericitic material filling the fractures, giving the veins a banded or ribboned appearance.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The mineralization consists of gold and sulphides (py with minor gn, cp, mc and sp) in vitreous quartz veins. The gold is only seen to occur in the free state, not associated with the sulphides. The discovery vein is the only zone of economic importance found to date. The vein is lense-shaped with widths to 2 m. 73 oz of gold and 16 oz of silver were obtained in material taken from the original pit in 1937.
