Access Description: The Husak Road No. 4 sulphide occurrence is located approximately 23 km north-northeast of Manitouwadge and 500 m west-northwest of the north end of Gracie Lake. Recent logging operations have removed most of the trees in this area. As a consequence, the occurrence is well exposed and readily accessed. The occurrence is accessible via motor vehicle. From Manitouwadge, travel east and then north along the Camp 70 logging road for approximately 31.5 km to the Jim Lake road. Proceed north along the Jim Lake road for approximately 7.85 km to the Husak road. Proceed west along the Husak road for approximately 3.7 km to a point 300 m east of the Thomas Lake road intersection. A prominent, rusty gossan and associated sulphides are exposed in the recently cut-over, scarified area approximately 10 m south of the Husak road.



Exploration History

1989: Lithogeochemical sampling; M. Smyk (OGS). Dighem 1989: Noranda Exploration Company Ltd. - airborne geophysical survey. 1991-1992: Reconnaissance till sampling survey; GSC. Samples collected in the vicinity of the occurrence contained unusually high amounts of Ni and slightly anomalous amounts of Au, Cu and Zn. 1993: The occurrence was examined, but not sampled, by D.B. McKay for the OGS.

Geology Comments

Apr 14, 2014 (D McKay) - The Husak Road No. 4 sulphide occurrence is located within the Quetico Subprovince approximately 5 km north of the Quetico-Wawa subprovince boundary (Williams and Breaks 1990). The rocks in the vicinity of the occurrence are moderately to locally strongly foliated (100 º/subvertical). Mineral assemblages indicate the rocks have experienced upper amphibolite and locally granulite facies-grade regional metamorphism (Williams and Breaks 1990). An east-trending, regional scale, linear topographic feature referred to as the Little Nama Lake lineament (Coates 1968, Map 2141) is located approximately 1.6 km south of the occurrence. The occurrence is underlain primarily by an east-trending sequence of locally schistose, migmatitic paragneiss.

Lithology Comments

Apr 14, 2014 (D McKay) - The paragneiss is generally light tan- to rusty-weathering, speckled black and white, medium- to coarse-grained, moderately foliated, non-magnetic and crudely laminated. The paragneiss is composed primarily of biotite, quartz and feldspar. Small (1 to 3 mm across) porphyroblasts of purple garnet and dark brown orthopyroxene occur locally. Intrusion of granitic, tonalitic and pegmatitic material into the paragneiss has resulted in the development of locallized lit-par-lit structures. The occurrence consists of up to 5% fine- to medium-grained, disseminated, subhedral grains of pyrite localized along the sheared margins of a 50 cm wide, foliation- parallel (100 degrees/subvertical), quartz-feldspar pegmatite dike hosted within migmatitic, biotite-quartz-feldspar paragneiss. The sulphides extend for approximately 50 cm on either side of the dike and can be traced along strike for approximately 10 m. A prominent, rusty gossan overlies the zone of sulphide mineralization.

Dec 07, 2005 (D McKay) - The occurrence consists of up to 5% fine- to medium-grained, disseminated, subhedral grains of pyrite localized along the sheared margins of a 50 cm wide, foliation- parallel (100 degrees/subvertical), quartz-feldspar pegmatite dike hosted within migmatitic, biotite-quartz-feldspar paragneiss. The sulphides extend for approximately 50 cm on either side of the dike and can be traced along strike for approximately 10 m. A prominent, rusty gossan overlies the zone of sulphide mineralization. A grab sample of pyritic, rusty-weathering, coarse-grained, strongly foliated, weakly magnetic, biotite-quartz-feldspar paragneiss collected from the occurrence in 1992 by D.B. McKay for the OGS returned assay values of trace Au, nil Ag, 261 ppm Cu, 103 ppm Zn, and <10 ppm Pb.
