Point Location Description: General: Showing located at Devils Rapids on the north or right bank of Mattagami River (T-258)

Location Method: Data Compilation

Access Description: Formerly by Spruce Falls Power and Paper railway from Kapuskasing to Smoky Falls, then on the Mattagami River by canoe 14 miles upstream/south to Devils Rapids. Rapids are indicated as flooded as of 1979, so it is unknown if showing is still directly accessible. (T-258; map P.2239).



Exploration History

1948: Mapping and sampling by P.H. Taylor, company unknown (AF T-258, Dobie-Betz Showing; geological map missing from file) / Prior to 1952: Moneta Porcupine Mines Limited reports discovery and sampling of radioactive deposit (GSC EGR 16).

Dec 07, 2005 (D Draper) - Showing is (quote) two fractures in biotite gneiss reported to contain quartz, carbonate, pyrite and pyrrhotite. Veins are up to 1 ft wide and have been traced for lengths of 27 and 60 ft (GSC EGR 16). See also Taylor report in AF T-258.




Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D Draper) - (Quote) A selected sample showed 0.23% ThO2 and no uranium (GSC EGR 16).
