Access Description: Hwy 11 to Smooth Rock Falls; 75km north to Fraserdale on Hwy 634; Ontario Hydro's private road to Smoky Falls then north via winter road. Helicopter recommended for summer access.



Exploration History

1959-60: American Nepheline Ltd. - kaolin-silica sand exploration of 11 townships. 1975: Ontario Division of Mines - Road construction; drilling program; palynological studies 1982: Onexco Ltd.: 1982 exploration program.

Mar 21, 2014 (D Draper) - Lower Cretaceous (Middle to Upper Albian) sediments consisting of quartz sands interbedded with kaolinitic clay. Hole 75-11-05 cut 66m of Mattagami Formation.

Mar 21, 2014 (D Draper) - Hole drilled to 88m. Lower Cretaceous Mattagami Formation occurs from 22.5m to bottom of hole. Sand intersections total 34m of 64.9m of Mattagami Fm.; clay intersections represent a total thickness of 27.25m.

Mineralization Comments

Mar 21, 2014 (D Draper) - SILICA SAND: Lower four sand samples consist of very white, well sorted, angular, low sphericity, very pure, fine silica sand. Three samples contained 100% quartz. Lower samples contain very little carbonate. CLAY: P.C.E. values over 8 samples ranged from 26 up to 34.
