Point Location Description: Collar of hole ONEX-82-14
Location Method: Based on Assessment
Access Description: In 1982, land access was via an all-weather road to Kipling Dam on the Mattagami River, north of Smoky Falls. A winter road built in 1975 runs from Kipling Dam northwestward across the Missinaibi River; the Missinaibi can be navigated by small, shallow draft boats. However, best access in summer is by helicopter. (T-2886, Summary Report of 1982 Exploration Program) Point location note: Collar locn as indicated by Lat/Long coordinates given on log plots 1500m west of collar locn shown on file plan DWG 10. As hole was most likely to have been drilled on the river bank as shown on DWG 10, compiler has used this location for the occurrence point.
1972: Algocen Mines Limited - Geological data compilation and aerial photographic analysis of full Cretaceous Basin. 1982: Ontario Energy Resources Limited (aka ONEXCO)- Reverse circulation drilling; geophysical wireline (gamma-ray and neutron) logging; heat value, palynological, petrographic and sedimentological analyses.

Mar 21, 2014 (D Draper) - Palynological studies suggest the Cretaceous lignites of the region are Middle Albian (100 mya B.P.). Lignite in hole ONEX-82-14 is thought to be slightly older than the beds cut by ONEX-82-05 and -08 in Gentles Township and West of Gentles.

Mar 21, 2014 (D Draper) - The main lignite seam in ONEX-82-14 is approximately 22ft thick (502 - 524 ft depth); several thinner seams (3 to 7 ft) occur from 460ft to 492ft in hole. Main seam is described as: fragmental lignite with considerable clay, very minor FeS2 and possibly some elemental sulphur.
