1933: Ontario Dept. of Mines - Auger drilling, test pitting and analyses of clay (ODM ARV42-3). 1966-67: Algocen Mines Limited (T-1303) - Auger samples taken of silica sand/kaolin exposure on both banks of river. 1972: Geological data compilation and aerial photographic analysis (conducted by Cartographic Services) of full Cretaceous Basin.
Province: Paleozoic and Mesozoic Basins
Subprovince: Moose River Basin
Geological Age: Mesozoic Geochronological Age: CRETACEOUS
Dec 07, 2005 (D Draper) - The Moose River basin is underlain almost entirely by Paleozoic sediments consisting of Silurian to Devonian sandstones, limestone, dolomite and shales. This basin is bordered on the south by a low Precambrian escarpment and on the north by Hudson Bay. Erosion along rivers within the basin cuts through the mantle of recent glacial till and unconsolidated sediments to expose clays and sands of Cretaceous age.

Dec 07, 2005 (D Draper) - Grey sandy clay and silica sand are exposed on the south bank of river (Exposure No. 1) and red mottled clays are found on the opposite (north) bank (Exposure No. 2). No.1: A 5 foot thick unit of clay and iron-stained silica sand is exposed for a distance of 100ft. An auger hole put down from the bottom of a pit cut 3 feet of grey-white silica sand with kaolin at the base of the hole. No.2: Grey-white and red variegated clay is exposed over an area of 25 by 15 feet. Several other small exposures of silica sand, kaolin and white-grey clay were noted by Crozier within 600 feet downstream of No.2. (ODM AR Vol. 42, Pt.3, p.90).
