Mineralization Comments

Dec 17, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - Prospecting by Jonsmith Mines in 1958 discovered highly rusty basalt on higher ground to the east of the Discovery Zone and some 50 m north of an exposure of diabase. Three pits and a trench were sunk. The pits exposed well-jointed basalt, which held pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite along thin fractures. Some quartz is present and a porphyry dike lies close to one pit, but no significant structural control was seen along which mineralization might be concentrated. The area was tested by five drill holes in 1959, one of which intersected a shear zone in basalt which contained much quartz and a little pyrite, and which assayed 0.31 ounces of gold per ton over a one-metre width. The other four holes contained shear or breccia zones with sulphides, but only low contents of gold (Assessment report 20000001409). Minor chalcopyrite, pyrite, and pyrrhotite as disseminations and narrow veins in intercalated intermediate to felsic metavolcanics (Shklanka, 1969). Odessa’s DDH 15 contained up to 12% pyrrhotite and 1.5% chalcopyrite in an epidotized section with strong pyrrhotites streaks at 107.4 feet, and blebs of pyrrhotite with 30% chalcopyrite at 127 feet. This hole returned up to 0.19% Cu and 0.527 ppb Au. DDH 17 returned up to 2.64 ppm Au. DDH 19 returned up to 0.16% Cu. DDH 20 returned 3.3 oz/t Au and 6.07 oz/t Ag from a quartz vein with 4% coarse sphalerite, 2% coarse chalcopyrite, minor pyrite, galena, and four specks of native gold. DDH 21 returned up to 2.04 oz/t Au and 2.2 ppm Ag from a quartz vein with minor chalcopyrite, pyrite, pyrrhotite, and several very fine specks of native gold, and 1.26 oz/t Au and 11.6 ppm Ag from a quartz vein with coarse pyrite in a quartz-albite porphyry (Assessment report 42L06NE0017). Kowkash Gold’s DDH 22 returned up to 0.249 oz/t Au (8.54 g/t Au) and 3400 ppm Cu over 1.4 feet from an andesite containing a quartz vein with 15% sulphides (70% pyrrhotite and 30% chalcopyrite) and a very fine speck of visible gold. DDH 25 returned up to 2.10% Cu and 0.041 oz/t Au (1.41 g/t Au) over 0.7 feet from a rhyolite with bands of pyrrhotite and a quartz vein containing chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite, and pyrite (Assessment report 42L06NE0014). Jonsmith Mines had samples that returned 15.01% Cu, 8.14 oz/t Ag, and 0.01 oz/t Ag and 5.14% Cu, 3.82 oz/t Ag, and 0.04 oz/t Au from trench T-10 (Assessment report 42L06NE0019).
