Jun 27, 2019 (Therese Pettigrew) - The New Athona showing is located 200 m SW of Hurd Lake and consists of two mineralized fracture zones containing 2-25% sulphides, including chalcopyrite, pyrite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, marcasite, and quartz veining, accompanied by carbonate alteration. The showing is situated near the edge of the Hurd Lake pluton, a quartz-feldspar porphyry which has intruded a rhyolitic unit. The rhyolite has been shattered by a NE-trending fault which has resulted in a brittle kink fold of the rhyolite. The mineralized rhyolite was exposed in trenches along a strike length of 130 m. The width of the fractured mineralized zone averages 6 m. Sample 910007 collected by M. Smith in 1991 returned 2.148 ppm Au (Assessment file 42L07NW8040). Sampling by Superior Canadian Resources in 2005 returned results up to 1.134 ppm Au (Assessment report 20000001090). Grab samples collected in 1992 returned 0.2148 ppm Au, 19,100 ppm Cu, and 565 ppm Zn (Assessment file 42L07NW0019). Samples collected by R. Hodgson in 2015 returned up to 54.5 g/t Au (Assessment file 20000014203). Channel samples from the east body averaged 1.64% Cu across a width of 3 m, on the west body, 0.47% Cu across a similar width (Shklanka, 1969).
