Dec 18, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - On the Holland-Chellew claims, Kindle reported that “7 pits have been made in two parallel zones of mineralization, which are about 400 feet apart. They are of about equal length and strike nearly east-west, parallel to the strike of the confining rocks. The mineral deposits are lens-shaped with maximum dimensions of about 100 by 15 feet. These are zones formed by strong shearing accompanied and followed by the impregnation of lenses of quartz-biotite schist by narrow quartz veins. The latter are contorted and twisted. The resultant schist is black and under the microscope is seen to be composed of fine quartz and muscovite, in which a few tiny garnets occur. Examination of the polished surface of a specimen from the southern zone showed that the quartz was fractured by tiny strain fissures orientated at nearly right angles, at the junctions of which occur the larger nodules of pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. The chalcopyrite veins the pyrrhotite, replacing it irregularly. A channel sample across 4 feet from a mineralized vein on claim K.K. 1,886 assayed for E. J. Holland gave the following results: copper, 12 per cent.; silver, 5.4 ounces; and gold, $1.80 per ton. What appears to be the continuation of the zone on the southern part of claim K.K. 1,887 is a mineralized vein and vein rock 33 feet wide, striking 70 degrees and dipping nearly vertically. Pyrite is abundant in a sugary quartz matrix. Galena occurs sparingly in this vein at the north side of the sheared zone. The rock of the south side is evidently a sheared rhyolite in contact with Keewatin diabase. At the contact there is a chloritic gossan zone. An assay of a selected sample from the shear zone gave the following results: lead, 33.46 per cent.; zinc, 5.70 per cent.; silver, 45 ounces” (Kindle, 1931). A grab sample collected by Tenajon Resources in 1998 returned 0.22% Cu and 0.4% Zn (Assessment report 42L07NW2002). Grab samples collected by G. Clark and A. Eveleigh returned up to 0.24% Zn and 0.22% Cu (Mason and White, 1994).
