Access Description: Ontario Northland Railway to Moosonee. Quarry is located 8 kms south of Moosonee via gravel surfaced road, adjacent to Maidmans Creek, west of Moose River. (MNR rept 1989, p.191).



Exploration History

Quarry began operation to supply crushed stone for road and airport maintenance in either 1967 (GSC Memoir 379) or 1970 (MNR report 1989). Operates intermittantly (as demand requires) by M.J. Labelle Co. Ltd. 2001: Mapping and sounding bar survey to determine depth of overburden on claim (#1213805) to the south of quarry, with the view to extending quarry operations into this area.

Dec 07, 2005 (D Draper) - The quarry exposes approximately 6m of Middle Devonian Kwataboahegan limestone in three lifts. This formation is typically light to dark brown, calcarenaceous, bituminous, thick- to massive-bedded extremely fossiliferous limestone. (MNR rept 1989).
