Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - In the Attawapiskat area there are both Early Jurassic and Proterozoic kimberlites. The early Jurassic kimberlites are centred at approximately latitude 52 45N and 83 50 W. These kimberlites occur along the Winisk River fault trend and occur where this fault splays toward James Bay. The kimberlite distribution pattern is elongated northwest along the Winisk River fault, parallel to the NW trend of the Proterozoic Sutton Inlier (120 km north of Attawapiskat). The Early Jurassic kimberlites lie just south of the NE trending Cape Henrietta Maria Arch.

Limestone | 2 | Hanging Wall |
Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The kimberlite is overlain by 177 feet of limestone. The kimberlite is described as hypabyssal macrocrystic kimberlite containing rare mantle xenoliths and small limestone xenoliths. Garnet, clinopyroxene and ilmentie megacrysts have been noted but are uncommon. The garnet compositions indicate a scattering in the G-10 field, but most all into the G-9 field. The kimberlite contains a population of low-chrome to chrome-free garnet.
