Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - In the Attawapiskat area there are both Early Jurassic and Proterozoic kimberlites. The early Jurassic kimberlites are centred at approximately latitude 52 45N and 83 50 W. These kimberlites occur along the Winisk River fault trend and occur where this fault splays toward James Bay. The kimberlite distribution pattern is elongated northwest along the Winisk River fault, parallel to the NW trend of the Proterozoic Sutton Inlier (120 km north of Attawapiskat). The Early Jurassic kimberlites lie just south of the NE trending Cape Henrietta Maria Arch.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Kimberlite was intersected appoximately 20 feet below overburden. The kimberlite is described as hypabyssal macrocrystic kimberlite. It contains limestone xenoliths, basement and mantle xenoliths and megacrysts of ilmenite, garnet and chrome diopside. Concentrate from the kimberlite is dominated by olivine. Garnet is scare and chromite is rare. Imenite is relatively abundant. The garnet geochemistry indicates pyrope garnets of G-10 composition are rare and that chromite compositions do not fall within the fields of chromite intergrown with diamond.
