Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - In the Attawapiskat area there are both Early Jurassic and Proterozoic kimberlites. The early Jurassic kimberlites are centred at approximately latitude 52 45N and 83 50 W. These kimberlites occur along the Winisk River fault trend and occur where this fault splays toward James Bay. The kimberlite distribution pattern is elongated northwest along the Winisk River fault, parallel to the NW trend of the Proterozoic Sutton Inlier (120 km north of Attawapiskat). The Early Jurassic kimberlites lie just south of the NE trending Cape Henrietta Maria Arch.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The kimberlite is described as a hypabyssal macrocrystic kimberlite and kimberlite breccia with a globular segregationary zone. Limestone xenoliths are present as well as autoliths, basement xenoliths and mantle nodules. Megacrysts of phlogopite, ilmenite, and chrome diopside have been observed. It was intersected under 6.2 m of overburden and may be two closely spaced kimberlite pipes. Garnet compositions are almost exclusively G-9. None of the chromite compoisitions fall within the compositional fields of chromite found intergrown with diamond.
