Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - In the Attawapiskat area there are both Early Jurassic and Proterozoic kimberlites. The early Jurassic kimberlites are centred at approximately latitude 52 45N and 83 50 W. These kimberlites occur along the Winisk River fault trend and occur where this fault splays toward James Bay. The kimberlite distribution pattern is elongated northwest along the Winisk River fault, parallel to the NW trend of the Proterozoic Sutton Inlier (120 km north of Attawapiskat). The Early Jurassic kimberlites lie just south of the NE trending Cape Henrietta Maria Arch.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The kimberlite is described as a hypabyssal macrocrystic, segregationary kimberlite. It contains mantle nodules composed of olivine-pyroxene. Garnet, ilmentie and clinopyroxene megacrysts were observed and limestone xenoliths were noted throughout. Toward the bottom of the hole, the presence of kimberlite dikes altered to an orange colour were noted cutting the hypabyssal kimberlite. The garnet is almost exclusively G-9. A few chromite grains fall near the diamond inclusion field, but the ilmenites display a reduced condition, indicating favourable conditions for diamond preservation.
