Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - In the Attawapiskat area there are both Early Jurassic and Proterozoic kimberlites. The early Jurassic kimberlites are centred at approximately latitude 52 45N and 83 50 W. These kimberlites occur along the Winisk River fault trend and occur where this fault splays toward James Bay. The kimberlite distribution pattern is elongated northwest along the Winisk River fault, parallel to the NW trend of the Proterozoic Sutton Inlier (120 km north of Attawapiskat). The Early Jurassic kimberlites lie just south of the NE trending Cape Henrietta Maria Arch.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The rock is described as a hypabyssal macrocrystic kimberlite. The magnetic ontours suggests that the kimberlite might consist of two closely spaced bodies. A few limestone xenoliths were found in the kimberlite. Macorcrysts of garnet, ilmenite and chrome diopside were also observed. Garnet is not abundant in the heavy mineral concentrate. the ganet suite containes one of the highest concentrations of G-10 garnets observed in the area. Ilmenite is more common than chromite. The chromite composition lie outside of the field of chromite intergrown with diamond.
