Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - In the Attawapiskat area there are both Early Jurassic and Proterozoic kimberlites. The early Jurassic kimberlites are centred at approximately latitude 52 45N and 83 50 W. These kimberlites occur along the Winisk River fault trend and occur where this fault splays toward James Bay. The kimberlite distribution pattern is elongated northwest along the Winisk River fault, parallel to the NW trend of the Proterozoic Sutton Inlier (120 km north of Attawapiskat). The Early Jurassic kimberlites lie just south of the NE trending Cape Henrietta Maria Arch.

Lithology Comments

Oct 19, 2009 (A Wilson) - The drill log indicates that the kimberlite contains Paleozoic crustal xenoliths and kimberlite indicator minerals. The kimberlite is overlain and underlain by brecciated limestone. The kimberlite is interpreted to be a dike offshoot from the main MacFayden 1 kimberlite. Between 41.5 and 105 m in drill hole 07-MF2-01, twenty-one kimberlite dikes were intersected. The dikes range from 0.03 to 5.8 m in width. Some of these dikes contain mantle xenoliths. The main kimberlite dike was intersected between 82.55 and 174.80 m. Below 174.28 m, two other kimberlitic dikes cut limestone.

Mineralization Comments

Oct 19, 2009 (A Wilson) - Three microdiamonds were reportedly recovered from a 145-kg sample. The 2007 bulk sample returned the following results: 1 diamond from 436.5 kg processed by DMS. The diamond weighed 0.053 ct. The caustic fusion sample returned 7 diamonds from 31.70 kg processed 90.22 diamonds/kg). The largest diamonds recovered were in the +150-212 micron size fraction.
