Exploration History

1853: vein was discovered by T. MacFarlane for the Montreal Mining Company. 1873-74: some development work was done, consisting of an adit level run in on the vein where it shows in the face of the cliff where it forms the north shore of the island, for a distance of about 7.6 m, from the end of which a 2.7 m winze was sunk on the vein.

Feb 28, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - The island consists of diabase dykes running lengthways through it with a small development of argillite between the two.

Mineralization Comments

Feb 28, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - Barite occurs in a vein 1.2 m thick. Minor amounts of sphalerite, galena, pyrite, calcite and quartz occur (Tanton, 1931).
