Mineralization Comments

Feb 28, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - About a quarter mile from the east tip of the peninsula, sulphide mineralization was found near the south side in the diabase in two pits 170 feet apart. The mineralization consists of pyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and pentlandite sparsely disseminated throughout the diabase. Three grab samples from the two pits assayed 0.19-0.36% Cu and 0.14-0.19% Ni (AFRI 52A04SW0053). Disseminated copper-nickel sulphide mineralization in the form of pyrrhotite with some chalcopyrite occurs here in a relatively coarse and altered phase of the lustre-mottled, ophitically textured, olivine diabase dyke, at its intersection with a minor cross-shear, about 25 cm wide. Width of the mineralized zone is about 3 m. A grab sample collected by J. Geul assayed 0.04% Cu and 0.08% Ni (Geul, 1973).
