Mineralization Comments

Mar 02, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - Disseminated pyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and pentlandite was found in Late Precambrian gabbro boulders in glacial drift. The float was laid on sedimentary rocks of the Rove Formation and led to the discovery of the Great Lake Nickel Corporation Ltd. mine prospect. A grab sample of gabbro taken by an OGS geologist from the pit in boulders was assayed as 0.23% Cu, 0.18% Ni, and a trace Pd (Geul, 1970). In 1982, RGP staff member J. Scott collected Sample JS-ISO-4, which assayed 3800 ppm Cu, 82 ppm Co, and 1890 ppm Ni (RGP mineral deposit files, Thunder Bay office). Sample SBDY, collected 600 m NW of the McCuaig Occurrence, assayed 4388 ppm Cu and 1055 ppm Ni (AFRI 52A04SW0101).
