Exploration History

1887: vein was discovered and work commenced. 1887-92: T.A. Keefer and O. Dounais sunk a 6.1 m shaft and a 211.8 m adit. Trenching was conducted. 1890: the Badger Silver Mining Company acquired the property. 1898: 127.7 m of cross-cutting and 41.8 m of drifting developed below the original adit. 1930-33: Animikie Mines Ltd. held the property. 1958-59: O.J. Wieben staked the property and conducted airborne magnetic and EM surveys. 1963: O.J. Wieben drilled 1 DDH totalling 39.6 m. 1966: Creswell Mines Ltd. optioned the property, hand mucked the portal, pumped out the dammed water, and drilled 1 DDH to 31.7 m. 1969: Creswell Mines bulldozed the site to provide access to the upper adit, where they conducted sampling. 1997: Elgin Lake Mines Ltd. conducted geological reconnaissance.

Mineralization Comments

Feb 06, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - Tanton (1931) reports that on mining location T 200, one-quarter of a mile south of the southern vein of the Porcupine mine, there is a caved adit on the western side of the same hill on which the Porcupine workings are located. No vein is visible. The material on the dump is shale with veinlets of quartz, calcite, and pyrite. The adit trends north 45 degrees east. Fifty feet south of the adit, there is a trench 60 feet long in drift. Sample GCP84-363, collected by the OGS, returned assays of 0.01 opt Au and 0.18 opt Ag, with calcite and massive sphalerite. 1970 reports from Creswell Mines record assays of 25.3 opt Ag over 0.3 m, 3.2 opt Ag over 0.4 m, 27.2 opt Ag over 0.4 m, and 16.4 opt Ag over 1.5 m.
