Jun 01, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - The amethyst and breccia zone are situated at the base of a prominent Archean granite cliff. The zone and cliff strike at 050 degrees. The granite is pink, medium-grained, massive, and highly altered to kaolin next to the breccia zone. The breccia zone is 5 m wide. Fragments are large, 1-1.5 m to pebble-sized, and very angular. Rock types showing up as fragments are pink granite, altered granite, Sibley mudstone, and dark grey metasediments. Quartz, in anastomosing veinlets, cuts the breccia and the fragments, indicating several stages of fracturing and deposition. Angular vugs, which can be up to 1 m wide, are lined with red, hematite-coated amethyst (Garland, 1994).

Jun 01, 2018 (Therese Pettigrew) - Ametystine quartz veins are found within the keel of sandstone as well as along the fault margin of the granite. The best showing is just east of L 1+00E, 0+80N, which consists of faulted red sandstone containing quartz stringers and numerous vugs, up to 0.5 m in diameter, lined with amethyst (AFRI 52A10NE0020).
