Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (W Bellinger) - 6) GENERAL GEOLOGY AND STRUCTURE: The quarry is located within an Early Precambrian felsic intrusive body called the MacKenzie Granite. Scott (1990) described the McKenzie Granite: The Mackenzie Granite is situated in the southern potion of MacGregor Township and occupies an area from Mount Baldy in the west to Birch Beach on Thunder Bay to the east, a distance of about 22 km. The Mackenzie Granite has been faulted and generally attenuated in the area 1.6 km northwest of Mary Harbour, but where not faulted, the granitic body is in the order of 3.2 km wide.
