Lithology Comments

Mar 10, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - The host rock for the occurrence is the dark pink, feldspar-rich, massive to porphyritic Penassen Lakes granite. The granite in this par of the North of MacGregor area forms very high ridges and hills. Quartz veins with small vugs and spaces are common, striking 80 degrees. Boulders of a very coarse breccia lie at the base of a NE-trending cliff which forms the south side of a prominent ridge. The breccia zone also occurs on the north side of this ridge. Fragments in the breccia are composed of the granite, metasediments, and Sibley Group rocks. Amethyst occurs in vugs as crystals of pink, purple, and red, hematite-coated points (Garland, 1994).
