Mineralization Comments

Jun 14, 2023 (Therese Pettigrew) - The two lots are underlain by vertical-dipping Archean mafic lavas cut by a Keweenawan diabase dike that strikes N70W and dips 70-75N. Along the north contact of the diabase, the mafic lavas are sheared and brecciated across widths up to 60 feet. The shattered zone is mineralized with abundant pyrrhotite, subordinate pyrite, and a little chalcopyrite. The zone is exposed by two pits near the east boundary of lot 30. In one pit, a 30-foot exposure shows 6 feet of massive pyrrhotite carrying abundant chalcopyrite; in the second pit, 60 feet to the east, a 20-foot exposure shows a deep gossan. The mineralized zone has been traced by drill holes for a length of 1,100 feet, and is shown to have an average width of about 30 feet. A grab sample of massive sulphides from the west pit was found to contain 2.44% Cu. One diamond-drill intersection obtained in hole No. 3 below this pit, indicated 2.99% Cu over a core length of 15 feet (Shklanka, 1969). The oxidized material in the shearing in the east pit assayed 0.39% Cu across 20 feet. The best drilling results by Lun-Echo Gold Mines in 1956 are as follows. DDH D-3 returned 0.66% Cu and 0.1% Zn over 3 feet from a depth of 28.5 feet and 2.19% Cu and 0.86% Zn over 5 feet from a depth of 31.5 feet. DDH D-7 returned 2.3% Cu, 0.2% Zn, and 0.27% Mn over 1 foot at a depth of 166.5 feet. DDH D-9 returned 1.22% Cu, 0.2% Zn and 0.13% Mn over 4.2 feet at a depth of 89.3 feet (Resident Geologist files, Thunder Bay RGP office).

Site Visit Information

Date: Jun 21, 2023

Geologist: Therese Pettigrew

Notes: RGP staff members T. Pettigrew, S. Hinz, and C. Kurcinka visited the site, located the two pits, and sampled both. The western pit (NAD83 Zone 16 297299 mE 5384561mN) is about 2 m deep and 11 m long, with a contact between diabase to the south and sheared mafic volcanics to the north. The mafic metavolcanics are very altered, micaceous, with sulphide staining and disseminated the thinly layered chalcopyrite. The eastern pit (NAD83 Zone 16 297318 mE 5384554 mN) is about 1.5 m deep and 6 m long. It contained massive sphalerite within mafic volcanics.
