Feb 24, 2020 (Therese Pettigrew) - Two veins were examined on claim No. 6858 near the lower contact of a high diabase sill arid Nipigon sandstones. They strike about N. 70 E. and dip 80 NW. The sediments here strike at about N. 165 E. and dip 45 NE and apparently have been arched and possibly faulted by the intrusion of the diabase sill. The veins consist of a much fractured and brecciated zone in the grey sandstone. One is 4 feet wide and is mineralized over 1 foot with galena and sphalerite. This may be traced north east 140 feet to a point where it narrows and breaks up into numerous quartz stringers and one larger vein, averaging 3 inches in width of solid sphalerite. Another 2-foot quartz vein occurs 20 feet away, parallel to the first, and is exposed on the west side of a sharp gully. It has an exposed length of only 10 feet but is heavily mineralized with galena and sphalerite. Barite and some calcite are associated with the sulphides, and calcite-galena stringers may be found in fractures in red to greenish altered tongues of diabase which intrude the sediments. A grab sample of rich lead ore on assay gave 41% Pb and no silver (Hawley, 1930). A sample from one of the sphalerite-rich veins was sent to the Bureau of Mines at Ottawa in 1943 and returned 8.14% Pb and 45.48% Zn (Assessment report 52A15SE0021). Samples collected by D. Petrunka returned values up to 61.39% Zn and 7.81% Pb (Assessment report 52A15SE2001).
